You could simply sprinkle fresh or dried leaves around your plants to discourage the mice from entering. Another option would be to soak some dry cotton balls with camphor, ammonia, or tea tree oil and put them around your plants.
Grow plants that repel mice Because of their very high scent, mice cannot hide from these types of insects. This will work especially well if you use a natural repellent that is strong enough to kill mice but not so powerful that they die from being repelled.
Look for repellents that include Cayenne. Cayenne Pepper is often used as a natural repellent. It is known to repel mice and rats. You should also look for plants that do not have strong scents; after all, you do not want the mouse repelling itself!
The only problem with natural repellents like Cayenne pepper is that they do take time for the mice to absorb them. That is why many people choose to use cedar oil as a mouse repellent.
Just make sure you dilute the oil before applying it. Many stores sell cedar oil, as well as Mouse Guard, an inexpensive Mouse Deterrent.
Grow plants that attract butterflies and hummingbirds Other types of insects might not be as deterred by plant repellents, but they still can enjoy the flowers and other plants that you have in your yard. Butterflies and hummingbirds are drawn to plants that are pollinated.
For them to survive and flourish you need to have some type of pollination in place.
In the spring, when flowers start to bloom, butterflies and hummingbirds will visit your plants and gardens to feed on the flowers and to pollinate them. If you wait until after the flowers have come out, you will not be attracting any of these creatures.
There are other types of mouse repellents that are available, and all you have to do is read the labels carefully. Some of these are made with natural ingredients that are safe for humans to use, others will harm both you and the mouse. Stay safe when using products that you make yourself or purchase over the counter.
Do not let children play with the products, and keep them away from pets and small children. Before using any type of mouse repellent on your plants or flowers, test it on your hands first.

Do houseplants attract mice?

How to keep mice from eating my plants
How to keep mice out of my plants? This is a question that I get asked quite often from friends who are new to vegetable gardening.
The first step in answering this question is understanding exactly what causes mice to seek out certain foods.
Here are some reasons that I have found that my Vegetable plants are never where I intended them to be:
1). Moisture
Mice absolutely love moisture. They especially love standing in water. So if your vegetable garden is located in an area where there is a lot of standing water, that’s exactly where you’re going to find them.
This also goes for flowerbeds, where they can also survive by eating the flowers below them. As you can see, moist areas provide mouse with a food source.
So how do you control this situation? Well, one way is to simply relocate your plants. I usually don’t do this, as I really like getting into the habit of rotating my plants every few weeks so that new, fresh leaves and water can get to them.
You can also try putting a slice of cheese or other cheese on the base of a plant. The mice will hopefully eat it, which will draw them to it, but it will also draw them away from any other live plant that may be nearby.
2). Food sources
It is for this reason that mouse can be so destructive. They are very adept at finding what we might consider to be “natural” food sources such as our vegetables. By going to the root of the plant, you can remove all of their natural water source and thereby removing any potential nourishment.
However, there are a couple of ways you can go about this:
Either put netting over the base of your bed, or dig a hole under the bed and spread newspaper inside and on top of it.
This will keep most mice out, but it won’t keep out the rats or roaches. If these animals do show up, use water hoses to flush them away quickly. And if they’re already in the trap, use a mouse vacuum to take out as many as you can.
A final note on controlling mice in my plants. There are products on the market today that claim to do this job, but they claim to do it without harming animals. I have found a few that have been effective, though.
One such product uses a wire mesh to trap the mice, and another releases a cloud of insecticide to do the same thing. The only way I have found to keep mice out of my plants is to use traps, wire mesh, and insecticides.
Do mice destroy plants?

That’s because when seedlings are young, they cannot withstand the weight of the adult insects that feed off of them. In turn, the seedlings often get destroyed. Because of this, farmers must often destroy the young seedling plants to prevent the mice from gaining access to the plant life beneath.
When you have a mouse problem, it’s best to call an expert before you do any damage to the plant. Many different insects attack plants and each of them can do serious damage. In addition, many gardeners don’t realize that there are mice that will eat the plant’s roots as well. This can lead to severe plant damage that could ultimately kill the plant. You might not realize it, but there are bigger problems involved than just a mouse.
If you have a mouse problem, it’s best to take care of it before it causes too much damage to your garden. There are a number of different things that you can do to solve the problem.
Keep an eye out for other pests and animals that eat plants. If you see more than one, take care of them right away. And if you see one, quickly remove it so the mouse does not have a way to get to your precious seeds or plants.
